It’s been a hard decision but today I went to my manager to request that I step down from my current role as Team Leader and back to code monkey status. It may sound stupid but there is a reason for this. Sigh, though it was my career goal to be a team leader within 3 years joining the company and although I achieved it within 1 year it was a bit of a shame to decide to let go. No I didn’t step down because of the stress and no the work wasn’t shit (kind of)… It’s more with what I want to do in life, live life like a bum! hahaha, jk… I want to travel, I want to play and I don’t really want to work that much. Isn’t that what everybody wants?
My immediate career goal is to work in the UK as it is the central hub to Europe. I intend to work as a contractor where ideally I work for 3 months and take 2-4 weeks off at a time to travel. After two years there, i’m probably thinking of heading over to Japan or China to teach english. ENGRISH?! Nani? hahaha… I’ll try!
Anyway, so yea, that was how I came to my decision to move back to code monkey status as I want to make my skills marketable and my skills up to date. Being team leader is shit in this way as most of the time it is managing people, schedules and making people overtime. Overtime is something that is hard for any team leader to do as you are forcing people from family, friends, partners, etc. I thought it would be easy to tell someone to work overtime, but I just can’t have the heart.
I enjoyed being a team leader purely because of the fact that you interact with a shit loads of people from higher management, clients and other agencies. People have to listen to your shit regardless and do the shit you give them. It’s like taking a shit and having someone to wipe your ass :). Oh baby… that was the life…
Though i’m back to code monkey, i’m still semi-team leader during this transition period till December. MY POWER!!! It’s going to fade!!! Better start bringing as much shit now and firing everybody
