Last Friday I caught up with some ex-workmates from my team. I Never realized it before but goddamn there were quite a few that had left already. About 6-7 already? Maybe it’s my time to move on too 
. One of the guys there is one of those who like to spend big on toys, like BIG!!. I was told that his home theater system costs something insane in the order of $150k!! One tweeter that he bought was $32k!! OMFG!!! He doesn’t even use normal CDs, it must be gold plated! Anyway caught up with him and he shows off this brand new camera:
In case you don’t know, this is a Leica M8 that costs $7.5k!!!! OMFG!!! and to top it off he had a Leica 50mm f/1.0 Noctilux:
F/1.0?!?! OMFG!!! That costs somewhere in the order of $7.5k!! So in total I was playing with a $15k camera kit on Friday. Based on the number of exclamation marks I think you can understand my excitement? My first time playing with it, I did notice that it was an uncomfortable piece of retro crud to hold, heavy as hell and the worse thing, manual focus. If Canon or Nikon came out with that same camera, most people would have thrown it away as it is virtually uncomfortable and hard to use but since it’s a Leica, people are bang up to spend that amount of cash. The retro feel and look is awesome though.
I was incredibly excited about the 50mm f/1.0 lens that came with it cos that’s DOF DOF DOF overkill! Here’s something in perspective…
- Canon 50mm f/1.8 = $150 AUD
- Canon 50mm f/1.4 = $550 AUD
- Canon 50mm L f/1.2 = $2,500 AUD
So imagine an f/1.0!!! My head exploded when he brought out another Leica lens but didn’t get a chance to play with it as I didn’t trust myself holding booze and a $15k+ camera. Someone find out where he lives and rob him!! jk jk
